Our new Matakana showcase features brushed timber cladding for a contemporary country lodge aesthetic.
When Selah Homes wanted to build a climate-conscious show home in the highly sought after village of Matakana, they turned to Abodo for the timber cladding, screening, ceiling linings and feature panelling.
The result is a head-turning double storey luxury home showcasing the best Abodo has to offer.
The building is wrapped in Vulcan Cladding and Screening (in Ebony coating), with Vulcan Panelling for the interior ceiling linings. The second storey dark timber features will be unmissable as market-going visitors drive into the village.
Designed by Christopher Wood Architects, the home is based on the principle that architecture should serve as a link between nature, histories, culture and people, and to help emphasise this, a new brushed finish was used on all exterior elements.
Brushing replicates the look of weathered wood by using a state of the art machine, and a series of abrasive brushes to scour out the softer timber - perfectly mimicking nature's own efforts. That is, the softer "earlywood" of the wood weathering back while the harder "latewood" of the wood's growth rings stand out.
This results in a three dimensional textured surface with unique natural grain variation, and a beautiful textured look.
Abodo timbers were not just chosen for their good looks, in total the home will store approximately 3500kg of carbon through its use of Abodo timbers.
“When we started talking with Abodo, we were immediately drawn to the sustainability and stability their products offer.” says Tysen Kay, Project Director for Selah Homes “The nature of the laminated vertical-grain in each board shows it will stand the test of time - something we take very seriously when choosing materials for our clients’ new homes.”
It’s well known that using timber in homes is good for people’s health and wellbeing, and that’s especially true when the timber is locally grown and manufactured. Abodo’s timber products meet the most stringent sustainability requirements, and are proudly New Zealand made.
The Matakana showcase opened in May 2023, and is now closed.
