Meet Alison Thirkettle-Tawharu

With a wealth of experience in kitchen design, sales and account management, Alison comes to us with a deep understanding of the design world. At an executive level, she has served on the New Zealand Kitchen & Bathroom Association board, as well as standing as Wellington Chapter Chair of the National Association of Women in Construction.

It was a vision for better representation in the provinces that drew this long-time lower North Island local to these leadership roles. As our Lower North Island Sales Manager, Alison appreciates being able to carry this passion through to her role at Abodo.

Honest and down-to-earth, Alison is proud to promote a product she truly believes in and finds great satisfaction in the level of engagement she sees in Abodo’s customers. She particularly loves the range of products on display in the Cardrona Cabin, a project she has experienced first hand on an overnight stay. She sees the future of wood as being sustainably sourced and derived from managed timber, and believes we must keep raising awareness for sustainable timber practices.

While she appreciates high-end design, Alison also sees the value in well designed projects at the lower end of the budget scale, saying that while they may not win awards, it is these projects that are often life changing for clients. Her love for good design at all levels carries through to fashion, books and art, and she is always ready to open her mind to new creative endeavours.

On weekends, you’re likely to find Alison out on walks with her rescue border collie, or on riverside bike rides with her partner. Proud grandmother to four, Alison is an advocate for keeping active for mental health and continuing to learn through all life’s journeys.
