Meet Bevan Griffiths

Bevan is Abodo’s South Island Area Manager

For Bevan Griffiths, his role as South Island Area Manager is not just sales pitches and wins, but about being there with boots on the ground when clients need guidance. With a background in architectural design and building, Bevan has a practical mindset and wealth of experience, which gives authenticity to his day-to-day work.

Before settling in Christchurch, Bevan took his Architectural Design and Licensed Building Practitioner qualifications to Europe, where he was involved in some impressive projects, spanning from a high-end private hotel in the South of France to a sprawling Portugal holiday home for a telecommunications mogul.

Closer to home, he worked as a project manager, with a key project being the timber installation for the Christchurch Town Hall earthquake repairs, before taking on his role at Abodo in 2020. Since then, Bevan has taken pride in the increasing popularity of Abodo for both residential and commercial projects and enjoyed connecting with passionate architects and dedicated construction professionals across the South Island.

A slightly nomadic life suits Bevan well, with his usual work schedule taking him on the road every 6-8 weeks, visiting clients in Otago and the Nelson region. Along with his wife, he enjoys regular travel out of the country too. In fact, he is just recently back from Kenya this year visiting a helicopter pilot friend living in one of the game parks, with South Korea on the cards for next year.

His other love is for cricket, and while a ruptured Achilles has put a stall on any cricket play for now, Bevan still loves to watch matches whenever possible, adding that: “Cricket, travel, food - ideally all three together and I’m winning!”

I worked for an architect in London who was also a well known sculptor. I used to go around with him and take notes and the role kind of built up from there. It was a really good opportunity for a young designer.

Bevan's personal architectural preferences see him appreciating small projects such as Nightlight by Fabric Architecture, which uses Vulcan Screening. “To me, the small stuff is often the clever stuff. It’s intricate and yet effective.”

His top tip is to use timber in easy to access and less exposed areas of the home, such as ceilings, timber soffits and interior walls, with an alternative material used where maintenance is more difficult to upkeep.

Always approachable, talk to Bevan about your next building project!
