Showcasing what’s possible using timber, Mjøstårnet holds the record as the tallest timber building in the world.
Starting as a crazy idea to showcase what is possible using timber, Mjøstårnet has grown to be 85.4 metres tall, and now holds the record as the tallest timber building in the world.
The entire façade of the Mjøstårnet is clad in low maintenance thermally modified pine – a natural durability enhancing technology used by Abodo to produce Vulcan Cladding and Decking.
The building will have 18 storeys and will include apartments, a hotel, offices, restaurants and common areas. In addition there will be a swimming pool hall of 4,700 square metres.
In 2018 Mjøstårnet won “New York Design Award 2018” Gold accolade at the DRIVENxDESIGN Award Programs, for the category "Architecture -Mixed Use – International".
This award celebrates the design process and product of planning, designing and constructing form, space and ambience that reflect functional, technical, social, and aesthetic considerations. Consideration is given for material selection, technology, light and shadow.
Video footage of the project story is available from Moelven - providers of structural engineered timber to the project.
With a scheduled completion date of March 2019, we can expect further updated from this amazing development.
