Vulcan Cladding - Vertical Grain
Abodo's premium weatherboard product made using FSC® certified New Zealand plantation timber, thermally modified for superior beauty and durability.
A renewable alternative to Western Red Cedar, Abodo's Vulcan timber is verified to store more carbon than is used in its production.
The thermal modification process used in its production results in a stable timber with low moisture content - meaning it won’t warp, cup or bleed. This also makes Vulcan Cladding suitable for coating in dark colours, even in warm climates.
Create clean lines using various profiles, including vertical shiplap and bevel back. With a variety of coatings and finishes, Vulcan is perfect for bespoke architectural aesthetics and applications.
As the thermal modification process is preservative and chemical free, Vulcan timber is ideal interior applications and joinery.
Additionally, Vulcan is manufactured with a patented process resulting in an engineered vertical grain orientation that reduces cracking and enables stable weathering long term.
Environmental Product Declaration and Declare Red List Free certified, each square metre of Vulcan Cladding stores 7.56kg+ of carbon.
Grade + Appearance
Vulcan Cladding is now available in two ranges.
The Architectural Series is our premium cladding, ideal for architectural projects where a largely clear aesthetic is desired. This series includes a wider range of profiles, colours and finishes.
Our new Standard Series includes some knots and natural features, and is available in a select range of colours and profiles.
Architectural Series / a mainly clear grade, that allows limited natural features only.
Standard Series / has a touch of character from the timber’s natural features.

Thermally modified timber
Vulcan timbers are treated with heat and steam rather than chemicals, which means the product is ‘pre-shrunk’ and will be more stable in service.
Natural Stability
Grown trees experience resistance (like wind for example) perpendicular to the grain, so it makes sense to produce wood products which are also cut perpendicular to the grain. Abodo Vulcan Cladding is vertical grain, which means weatherboards have greater stability and less surface cracking.
Natural Durability
This product is naturally durable, and contains no wood preservatives. Just as nature intended.

Carbon Storage
Each square metre of Abodo's Vulcan solid timber is proven to store 7.56kg+ of carbon, more than twice the carbon emitted during the manufacturing process. This means carbon is essentially locked in the wood during its useful life.

FAQs
What’s the difference between the current Architectural Series and the new Standard Series?
The Architectural series is our premium cladding product, crafted
from Clear 1 grade feed stock timber to deliver a clean, high-end
aesthetic.
The Standard Series is made from Clear 2 grade feed stock timber and
brings a light natural character to the timber’s appearance – ideal for
mid-range builds where premium clear lengths are not always required.
The
Standard Series is also available in a limited range of colours and
profiles. Accordingly, the Standard Series is available at a lower, more
accessible price.

Are accessories available for the timber cladding?
Yes. For most profiles, we offer various corner, flashing, fascia and finishing profiles to match the cladding boards. Using these accessories will ensure optimal performance of the cladding system in service.
How do I install and fix Abodo timber cladding?
Cladding is bit more technical than decking, so always consult with a professional before starting your project. A Licenced Building Practitioner is required for install.
Abodo cladding may be face fixed or secret fixed depending on the profile shape. Stainless steel ring shank nails or self-drilling stainless steel countersunk screws should be used in all cases. Generally we recommend to fix boards onto a drained cavity system to allow good airflow and optimum weather protection.
All profiles requires a minimum 2mm expansion gap to be left between boards, you need to ensure all cut ends must are resealed with penetrating oil or sealer. Boards should be coated all sides and re-coated regularly as required thereafter.
